Kratos returns…

Kratos_ChainedKratos returns in Sony’s Prequel to the God of War series:  “God of War-Ascension”.

In this iteration “Six months have passed since Kratos stood over the bodies of his wife and child, his hands stained with their blood – tricked by Ares into murdering the only people he ever loved. Swearing to avenge them, Kratos broke the blood oath that bound him to Ares, but oaths to Olympus are not so easily broken… Sentenced to an eternity chained within a prison for the living damned, Kratos battles insanity at the hands of the Furies. He will be tested as he seeks freedom, redemption for his sins, and the clarity to avenge his family.”

In anticipation of the March 12 release date, Sony has posted out a demo on the PlayStation Network. aptly titled “Prison of the Damned”.  Weighing in at a hefty 3.7 GB, the demo also comes with several behind the scenes videos, including the “From Ashes” Superbowl commercial, the Online Multiplayer preview, and a quick intro from the creative director behind the game.

The visuals and gameplay are fantastic. The folks at Santa Montica pushed the PlayStation to its limits, yet again.

I am definitely looking forward to the March 12th release.
Cue the drums and chanting!!

God of War-Ascension

PlayStation 4 introduced… Along with a few other things.

KZ4_WallIn the “Why is Mo late with Video Game news?” category, Sony unveiled its next gaming platform, the PlayStation 4 last Wednesday.  Sporting a “a supercharged PC architecture with a x86 architecture CPU, an enhanced PC GPU, and 8GB of GDDR5 system memory as well as a local hard drive”, the PS4 looks to give gaming developers more freedom to create games vs. the old PS3.

Although the system “box” itself wasn’t officially shown (more likely due out for the E3 expo in June..), Sony did show off the new Dual Shock 4 controller.  It includes a touch screen, Move capabilities, a new “sharing” feature, and a streamlining of the controller design itself.

Along with the announcement, Sony touted its own game developers, showing off a demo the next Killzone game, called “Killzone: Shadowfall” (more screens here); “inFamous: Second Son”; “DriveClub”; and “Knack” just to name a few.  Sony also scored (and I mean scored) a big win in 3rd party developer support, namely with Activision/Blizzard bringing “Diablo III” to the PS3 and PS4, the next game from Bungie called “Destiny”, Ubisoft with “WatchDogs”, and SquareEnix bringing their next untitled “Final Fantasy” game.

Looks like the next Gaming Console war is just starting to heat up.  How much do you want to bet that Sony and Micro$oft will charge an arm, leg, and your first born to get your hands on a console this Holiday season??

Ouch….

Aliens4“Yeah, go ahead and push the button already…”

Gearbox’s latest release “Aliens: Colonial Marines” pulls in a whopping 46% score.

Billed as being a sequel to the original “Aliens” Movie, enthusiasts of the series complain that the game simply needed a whole lot more polish.

Textures are muddy, “Woeful AI for the Aliens themselves”, shoddy lighting.. you name it, it seems the game has it all.

And to top it off, Gearbox actually out-sourced the Console versions (Xbox and PS3) to a third party developer for completion.

To quote IGN.com “Aliens: Colonial Marines is an uninspired and unfinished game, and not remotely worthy as a sequel to the Aliens film.”

Shame on Gearbox! This could have been one of the best games around!

Guess ill keep on playing Dead Space 3!
