Instead of pure white, the interior of the dome is pitch black and very creepy. We're not sure whether or not this dome is evil or good. When inside, the astronauts try to walk out of the dome, but soon discover that the wall has re-solidified.

Quickly after the astronauts try to leave, they see a "human hand" floating in the air near them. After this, they don't see an "alien", but a human male.

THE FLOOR BENEATH THEM Turns transparent. And they can see... LEVELS UPON LEVELS Below them, vanishing into the depths, each a transparent floor like the one upon which they stand. And on each level are... THOUSANDS OF SPACESHIPS Just like the one in front of them. MCCONNELL (CONT'D) Dear God...They left these for us. Luc and Terri stare at him, not understanding. MCCONNELL (CONT'D) In case we ever made it this far. Don't you see? They're inviting us to join them. (then, softly) They want us to come home.

After all the emerge from the dome into the sandstorm, Jim is with Luc and Terri, Jim saves Terri from a "whirlwind". Terri's suit suffers a hole from a rock impact. Jim sprays water onto the hole, which freezes blocking the air from escaping.

All three make it back to Phil and the awaiting rocket. Jim tells the group that he is staying on Mars and not making the return trip to the Earth.
