M2M
by a Nose?
It
appears as if M2M will be the first Mars movie to
make it into theaters next year. Look for it on
screens March 10, 2000. The story below is from
Cinescape.com. 11/1/99
More
than ever, it looks as if Disney's Mission To Mars
movie project will win the Mars movie rally. According
to the Hollywood Reporter, the Brian DePalma directed
project has wrapped principle photography 15 days
ahead of schedule just this last week. The film's
scheduled release date remains March 10th.
Mission
To Mars will tell the story of the first manned
mission to Mars gone terribly wrong when the ship
and crew appear to have been destroyed by an unusual
beacon. Gary Sinise plays the film's lead and the
captain of the second mission to the red planet
to rescue the crew of the first. Sinise's character
was originally set to join the first crew, but had
to stay on earth to deal with his wife's death.
On
Mars, Sinise and his crew soon learn that there
are some unusual connections between the red planet
and good ol' mother Earth. (Read
my review of the script) Meanwhile, Warner Bros.'
own Mars movie project, Red
Planet starring Val Kilmer, is still shooting
and expected to wrap in early December. That film
is likely to hit theater screens in spring or summer
2000.
Further
down the line will be James
Cameron's two Mars projects; one for television
and the other an Imax feature; as well as John Carpenter's
Ghosts of Mars.
