Information
The web site FANDOM
recently conducted an extensive interview
with the director of Ghosts of Mars, John
Carpenter.
My favorite line from the interview:
"There's a siege on a jail, fights on
a train, battle sequences. Lots of physical
training for everyone....Joanna Cassidy's
character makes an escape in a modified weather
balloon and travels across the Martian landscape
in it. But no zeppelins. No cheesy spaceships.
None of that stuff." 8.17.00

Filming
starts next Monday
We're just five days from
the start of the filming of the movie GHOSTS
OF MARS.
"Filming is supposed to
start on Monday (August 14) at a location
just north of Albuquerque. The extras are
being told to show up at 4 PM and that they
will work until 4 AM. They have hired over
100 extras for the film, of which nearly 100
will be "warriors" in leather and dark, raggy
clothing (some with spikes). I've heard some
say "Think of the 'Road Warrior'". There are
minors, scientists, and warriors. I don't
know how many miners but there are very few
"scientists". It sounds like Carpenter may
produce an unusually high body count even
for one of his own movies in this one. New
Mexico is experiencing an unusually hot season
this year and the extras have been told to
bring canteens with plenty of water for themselves.
It sounds like filming will be under extreme
conditions."

There,
she's in!
It
seems as if Natasha
Henstridge will definitely be
portraying the character of Melanie, a "non-lesbian
'breeder' cop that ends up in a pretty f%$#@d
up situation involving the ghosts of Mars".
Also,
it is my understanding that the production
design of the movie will somewhat follow that
of the painter "Brom", who spent
a lot of time illustrating the world(s) of
the gaming company TSR. From Ain't

She's
In?
Coming
Attractions is reporting that either Famke
Janssen (Jean Grey in the X-MEN movie) or
Michelle Yeoh (best known stateside in her
role as Wai-Lin in TOMORROW NEVER DIES) will
be taking over the role of Melanie which was
originally supposed to be played by Courtney
Love.
My
vote for the who should take the part would
have to go to Janssen.

She's
Out!
It's
official, Courtney Love has had to pull out
of the movie GHOSTS OF MARS after sustaining
an injury training for the role. Production
is slated to start on the $30 million dollar
feature in just two short weeks. With thanks
to Dustin. 7.22.00

`Love Ankles On 'Mars'
Variety reports today that Courtney Love, due
to star in the upcoming John Carpenter's Ghosts
of Mars, has injured her ankle and will have
sit the movie out. A tight production schedule
that insists shooting begin August 8 means the
rock singer turned actress will not have time
to mend before going in front of the camera.
Ironically, Love injured her ankle while training
for the physical demands the movie will put
the star through. There is no word yet on Love's
possible replacement. |

Official
Word
Here's
the official word from Sony about the movie.
7.14.00
"Earth colonists
activate a primitive Martian race who have
left behind their ghosts to prey on visitors
to the planet by possessing their bodies.
When a group of police discover them, they
must fight to survive and save the human presence
on Mars from the earlier inhabitants."
