Live
at Red Rocks...
I'm
hoping and praying that GHOSTS OF MARS will
be as cool as some other John Carpenters other
movies. I just watched THE THING again, for
the 1,001th time, and am hoping that GHOSTS
OF MARS is as good as a movie as THE THING.
By the way, shooting starts on the movie this
month! From various sites but pulled from
CINESCAPE.com.

Love Talks 'Mars' Courtney
Love is updating info regarding the upcoming
John Carpenter directed Ghosts of Mars. On
the official Hole website, the musician/actress
talked about the project, saying, "I'm doing
rehearsals and reading for my John Carpenter
movie with Ice Cube (who had a baby
today) tomorrow. I have to work out every
day for four hours, and I want to squeeze
in time with Sam and Eric this week for more
songs as I'm rehearsing. They cast Clea
Duvall (who was in Girl, Interrupted)
and Joanna Cassidy (from Blade Runner),
and I think Pam Grier (from Jackie
Brown), so it's a really cool cast."

Mars
is made of RAWK!
It
seems as if Courtney
Love just might star in GHOSTS OF MARS
after all. Remember people, Courtney's a "serious"
actress who requires, no, DEMANDS that
million dollar plus salary for her starring
role. GOM begins filming this June. From CHUD.com.

Courtney Love is in
final negotiations for a seven-figure payday
to star opposite Ice Cube and Jason Statham
in Screen Gems' "John Carpenter's Ghosts of
Mars." The project is targeted to start shooting
in early summer. <SNIP> "Ghosts"
will be released domestically by Sony's niche
label Screen Gems, with most territories handled
by Columbia TriStar International. Screen
Gems executive vp Clint Culpepper is overseeing
the film for the studio."

Can
I be the first to say that I don't get it?
What's the deal with
this movie? It seems that every time I turn
around, another musician has joined the cast.
Am I correct in assuming that usually movies
hire actors and not musicians?
Seriously though, this
movie could really turn out to to be something
cool. Thanks goes to Michael Summers. My only
question is if Ice will play a member of the
rescue mission or the suspected
killer. From Cinescape.com.

Ice Cube has signed
on to Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars project.
According to Variety, the actor turned rapper
will take the film's male lead role. Set in
the far future, the film tells the story of
a rescue mission to save Earth colonists on
Mars from a vicious killer. The crew soon
learns that the real killers are the ancient
violent spirits of the Martian dead who possess
humans driving them to do terrible things.
Production on the project is scheduled to
start in June. Courtney Love and Whoopee Goldberg
have previously been rumored to be joining
the film's cast as well.

Yep,
there's a great big Hole in Mars
Ummm, I don't get it.
Is she a Singer/ Actress or an Actress/ Singer.
Maybe she should go nameless. (As the guys
over at CHUD.com
pointed out, wasn't THE QUICK AND THE DEAD
a "girl western?)
Still, this film seems
to have some potential; it's directed by John
Carpenter for God's sake! From Hole

Courtney To Attack Ghosts of Mars
Love confirmed with us that she will indeed
be starring in John Carpenter's highly-anticipated
Ghosts of Mars as Melanie, an interplanetary
police squad officer 175 years in the future.
Courtney also mentioned that fellow musician/actor
Ice Cube (Three Kings, Next Friday) will co-star
in what she calls "the only girl western
I've seen... ever." The film is slated
for a 2001 release.

Hole
in Mars?
Hmmmm. Criminal teams
up with a group on an alien world to fight
evil. Sounds a lot like PITCH BLACK. With
thanks to Tourdemars. From YAHOO.com.

COURTNEY
LOVE eyes Mars
Now
that Disney has proven there is box office
life on the red planet with "Mission
to Mars," comes word that a neat
cast is in the offing for another expedition,
"John Carpenter's Ghost of Mars,"
a pic orbiting Sony's mid-budget Screen Gems
division. Dish hears Courtney Love looks likely
for the role of a butt-kicking leader of a
expedition to Mars, Whoopi Goldberg is a possible
as a science officer. They go to the planet
planning to hunt down a guy
alleged to have killed his fellow colonists
in atrocities actually committed by an army
of colonists possessed by a homicidal ghost
of an ancient Mars civilization. The framed
guy helps the team kick Martian tail. Dish
hears Carpenter wants Jason Statham for the
male lead. He starred in the Guy Ritchie-directed
"Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,"
and just wrapped Ritchie's followup "Diamonds"
with Brad Pitt. Screen Gems favored a better
known lead, though other studios are kicking
the tires.

Here's
what we know so far:
I hate to say this,
but the movie sounds really like something
that John Carpender would do and really cool...
The
story takes place some 175 years in the future
in a dusty frontier mining town on Mars. A
small squad of police have been sent to transfer
an extremely dangerous criminal, Desolation
Williams, back to the main administrative
Martian city, Chryse. Our heroine, Melanie,
is second in command of this squad. What no
one realizes is that mining operations have
uncovered --and disturbed-- the ruins of an
ancient Martian civilization and unleashed
a kind of spiritual doomsday defense system
that will relentlessly destroy any alien presence
(in this case, Earthlings) inhabiting Mars.
When the cops arrive at this remote outpost,
no one but the criminals locked away in the
local jail have survived... And the "Martian
Ghosts" are determined not to let them get
away.
